Meal scans and the food log
How do I scan a meal?
Open the Food tab, tap + and choose Scan a Meal. Take a photo from above, in good light, with everything you're about to eat in the frame, or choose one from your library. The estimate opens on a screen where you can change any food or number. Nothing is logged until you tap Save.
The scan got my meal wrong.
A scan is an estimate, and portions are the hardest part to judge from a photo. Tap a food's name in orange to pick another kind, tap the red button beside a food to take it out, or type over its calories. The totals follow. If it is far off, cancel and use another photo, or enter the meal by hand.
How many scans do I get?
20 a day for each account. Photo scans and described meals count together. When they are used up, the app tells you what time the count starts over. Barcode scans and entries typed by hand are not limited.
Can I log a meal without a photo?
Yes. Tap + in the Food tab and choose Search Foods to find a food by name, Describe a Meal to type what you ate, Scan a Barcode for packaged food, Recent Foods for something you have logged before, or Enter Manually. Search Foods looks through a list of everyday foods and drinks built into the app, and can also search packaged products by name. Tap any entry to change it, and swipe it left to delete it. The arrows at the top move to earlier days.
The barcode numbers are wrong, or the product isn't found.
Barcode data comes from Open Food Facts, a database anyone can edit, so always check it against the label. You can correct the numbers before saving, including the serving size: if the app says a serving is 30 g and the pack says 40 g, type 40 and the calories and macros follow. If a product is missing, choose Enter It by Hand: the app remembers your numbers and uses them the next time you scan that barcode.
How is my calorie target worked out?
From four answers (sex, birthday, height, workouts a week), your weight trend and your goal's pace, using the Mifflin-St Jeor formula. The result screen shows each step. It is an estimate, not medical or dietary advice, and you can change every number in Food > the sliders button, or in You > Daily targets.
Weigh-ins and photos
Where are my photos stored?
Inside the app, on your phone. They are not saved to your camera roll. If iCloud is signed in, they also sync to your own private iCloud database.
How do I unlock my photos?
Tap any photo in the Photos tab and use Face ID or your passcode. Photos lock again when you leave the app. You can turn hiding off in You.
How do I change my goal?
You > Goal for a quick change, or You > Reevaluate Goals to set a new weight, goal and pace from today.
How do I connect Apple Health or a smart scale?
Go to You > Apple Health. "Save weigh-ins to Health" writes your weight to Health. "Import from other apps" fills days you didn't log with readings from a smart scale or another app that writes to Health.
Plans and your account
What does the free plan include?
One weigh-in and photo check-in a week, with your trend, your goal and the photo tools. Tracker Turtle+ removes the weekly limit and adds the Food tab, with meal scans and the barcode scanner.
I bought the app before it was free.
You keep unlimited weigh-ins and photos. The Food tab is part of Tracker Turtle+.
How do I cancel Tracker Turtle+?
Apple manages the subscription. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Tracker Turtle. You can also open your subscriptions directly.
I subscribed, but the app still shows the free plan.
Open the plans screen and tap Restore Purchases. Check that the iPhone is signed in to the Apple Account you subscribed with.
How do I delete my account?
You > Delete Account. That removes the account and its email address for good. It does not cancel a subscription, which you cancel in Settings.
Your data
How do I move my data to a new phone?
Sign in to the same iCloud account on the new phone, open the app and tap "I already have an account". Your weigh-ins, photos, goal and food log download automatically. You can also export a CSV from You > Export CSV.
How do I delete everything?
You > Erase All Data. This removes your weigh-ins, photos and food log from the phone and from iCloud. Weigh-ins already saved to Apple Health stay in Health.
